Oven Temperature Converter
Convert between Fahrenheit, Celsius, gas mark and fan-oven settings — including the drop a convection oven needs.
Your results
Celsius
177 °C
Fan / convection oven
157 °C (325 °F)
Gas mark

The conversion is (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9. The numbers cooks actually memorise are the round ones: 350°F is 175°C, 400°F is 200°C, 425°F is 220°C.
A fan or convection oven moves hot air across the food, so it cooks faster at the same dial setting. Drop the temperature by about 20°C (25°F) from any conventional recipe, or expect the outside to be done before the middle.
Most home ovens are 15 to 25°C off their own dial, and the error is not constant across the range. An oven thermometer is the cheapest accuracy you can buy.
Questions people ask
What is 350°F in Celsius?
350°F is 177°C, which every recipe rounds to 175°C or 180°C. In a fan oven, use 160°C.
How do I convert a recipe to a convection oven?
Lower the temperature by 20°C (25°F) and start checking about 25% earlier. The fan does not just heat faster, it dries surfaces faster too — which is why convection browns better and can overcook a delicate cake.
What is gas mark 6?
Gas mark 6 is 200°C or 400°F. Each mark up or down is roughly 14°C (25°F).
